Balabit IT Security has established a new Research and Development Centre in Veszprém (Hungary) where the special modules of its activity monitoring product called Shell Control Box are going to be developed.

Balabit IT Security, one of the global leaders in developing privileged activity monitoring, trusted logging and proxy-based gateway technologies, has started to substantially extend its development resources supported and partly financed by an European Union R&D fund. The company opened its new Research and Development Centre in the middle of July (Hungary), in order to achieve the goal of 40% increase in revenue and work force as planned at the beginning of the year for 2011. Balabit is committed to the continuous technology innovation, therefore the new R & D Centre is established in the city of Veszprém, a significant Campus in Hungary. The first project of the Centre is the development of the new audit player module of the Shell Control Box, a privileged users monitoring tool. This new functions will enable easier and faster searching and reporting, and also offer real-time alert for customers. The company is planning to increase its number of employees in Veszprém and also plans to establish further cooperation with the University in several areas of research.

Shell Control Box is the very first activity monitoring solution for privileged access in the global market, developed by Balabit IT Security in cooperation with companies such as Citrix, Microsoft, Sun Microsystems, VMware. With Shell Control Box, Balabit offers the most comprehensive privileged access monitoring solution in the industry, helping customers to meet even the highest level of IT Security and compliance regulations.

“The Shell Control Box released in 2006 has become the most profitable product of Balabit and there is a significantly great international demand for this unique solution. This is the reason for opening the new Development Centre. Last year the revenue from Shell Control Box sale increased by 187%, representing 38% share of the whole revenue of the company,” – said Zoltán Györkő, Business Development Director of Balabit IT Security. “In a city like Veszprém, where the distinctly strong IT education is accompanied with smaller demand of the labor market, our development plans can be accomplished more effectively and this will further enhance the competitiveness of Balabit.”

About Balabit Shell Control Box Privileged IT User’s Monitoring Tool
Shell Control Box (SCB) is an activity monitoring appliance that controls access to remote servers, virtual desktops, or networking devices, and records the activities of the users accessing these systems. For example, it records as the system administrators configure your database servers through SSH, or your employees make transactions using thin-client applications in VMware View. The recorded audit trails can be replayed like a movie to review the events exactly as they occurred. The content of the audit trails is indexed to make searching for events and automatic reporting possible. SCB is especially suited to supervise privileged-user access as mandated by many compliance requirements, like PCI-DSS. It is an external, fully transparent device, completely independent from the clients and the servers. The server- and client applications do not have to be modified in order to use SCB; it integrates smoothly into the existing infrastructure.
